Nationals, Kings Advance to WSL Invitational Championship

The West Allis Nationals and Kenosha Kings both advanced to the WSL Invitational Tournament championship game with victories over the Sheboygan A’s on Saturday night.

West Allis Nationals 8, Sheboygan A’s 7

Saturday was a rough outing for Cody Griebling, but the West Allis Nationals still managed to pull out an 8-7 victory over Sheboygan A’s in seven innings at Wildwood Baseball Park, Sheboygan, WI.

Griebling allowed six runs in five innings, but the bullpen gave up one run and the offense banged out 13hits to pick up the slack and secure the win for the Nationals.

The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to five lead changes in the game.

With the score at 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh, the A’s had the bases loaded with two outs. Harry Steldt hit a front spinning line drive to right field, but the Nationals defender was able to make a catch just before the ball hit the grass to secure the victory.

Kenosha Kings 2, Sheboygan A’s 1

Jason Bunton struck out 11 batters to lift Kenosha Kings to a 2-1 win over Sheboygan A’s.

The A’s were ahead early but it ultimately surrendered the lead for good in the fourth inning on a two-run double by Cyle Hartwig.

Derek Loomans was charged with the loss. He lasted five innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed two runs.

The A’s’ lone run of the ballgame came in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Nate Heili.
