Braves Improve to 4-2 with 8-6 Victory Over Lombard

The Addison Braves used nine base hits in a rain-shortened game to grab an 8-6 victory over the defending league champion Lombard Orioles Thursday night, despite the Orioles 11 hits.

The Addison Braves used nine base hits in a rain-shortened game to grab an 8-6 victory over the defending league champion Lombard Orioles Thursday night, despite the Orioles 11 hits.

John Vesevik was the starting pitching for the Orioles and lasted two innings, allowing two hits and three runs across the plate. Emilio Guitron, who later came on in relief, took the loss.

Zack Jones was credited with the win for the Braves, striking out eight in his effort. 

Addison’s Cy Kerber and Vincent Scifani both reached base on errors in the 2nd inning and eventually scored on a fly ball hit by Freddie Morales. This put the Braves in the lead 2-0. Another run was added to the scoreboard when Luke Seidel singled on a fly ball to center field scoring second basemen Chris Karasinki who was previously walked.

The Braves’ 3-0 lead quickly became a tie game when the Orioles put up three runs in the 2nd inning as well. Outfieler Jack Grace hit a hard ground ball to third base and reached first base on an error. This was followed up by a line drive single to left field hit by Kyle Fitzgerald. Both runners advanced when Riley Rundquist was hit by a pitch. Jacob Campbell grounded out but Grace scored a run. Two more runs were scored on RBI singles hit by Jake Novak and Jeremy Figueroa.

The Braves were able to score five more runs in the 3rd inning, completing their night offensively. The Orioles went on to score two more runs in the 4th inning and an additional run in the 6th inning.

The Wisconsin State League matchup between the Burlington Barons and West Allis Nationals was postponed due to weather and has been rescheduled for July 23.
