Cavaliers Name Matt Miller New Manager

The Eau Claire ­Cavaliers turned to a familiar face F­riday to fill their vacant ­manager job, ­hiring former Cavs standout Matt ­Miller to replace Mark ­McHorney, who resigned in September after seven ­seasons on the bench.

The Eau Claire ­Cavaliers turned to a familiar face F­riday to fill their vacant ­manager job, ­hiring former Cavs standout Matt ­Miller to replace Mark ­McHorney, who resigned in September after seven ­seasons on the bench.

The Eau Claire ­native, who served as an assistant coach for the Express, played seven years for the Cavaliers, earning six ­captain awards and two team MVP awards.

The Eau Claire Memorial grad was an all-conference and all-state performer for the Old Abes. He played ­college baseball at UW-Stout for coach Joe Vavra and Western Oklahoma State College. Then-manager Tom Frederick recruited Miller to play shortstop for the Cavaliers in 2006.

Miller also played for the Eau Claire American Legion team, Beef River Bullfrogs, Hallie Eagles and Eau Claire Bears.
