WSL Friday Recap: Giants Win Big Over Green Bay

Oshkosh Giants 20, Green Bay Storm 4

A 10-run second inning carried the Oshkosh Giants to a resounding 20-4 win over the Green Bay Storm in Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League action on Friday night at E.J. Schneider Field.

Paul Mutch led the offensive barrage for the Giants with three hits, including a three-run home run. Alex Koch drove in four runs highlighted by a bases-loaded triple, while Josh Bartelt and Hunter Messerschmodt each finished with three RBIs.

Nick McLees fanned nine in six innings to get the win on the mound for Oshkosh.

The Giants will have a pair of home games early next week, hosting the Menasha Macs on Tuesday and the Sheboygan A’s on Wednesday. Both games are slated to start at 7:30 p.m.

Sheboygan A’s 7, Appleton Legends 6

Sheboygan A’s door-slammer Connor Keating struck out the side in the ninth inning to preserve a  tense 7-6 Northeastern Wisconsin League win over Appleton in front of  spirited crowd at Wildwood Park Friday night.

The win, coupled with Green Bay’s loss Friday, puts the A’s and Green Bay in a tie fir first. Following a State League doubleheader in Kenosha Saturday and a 2-day holiday break, the A’s host Green Bay on Tuesday night. Tuesday’s game marks the first of 22 straight days in which the A’s will be on the field.

Highlighted by Nate Heili’s steal of home, the A’s scored three runs in the third inning. While Appleton launched constant threats the A’s never lost the lead.

After throwing a long inning  in Thursday’s washout, Eric Schmitz went five to get the win, Derek Loomans got them to the ninth when Keating took over.

The A’s are 17-6 for the season.
