WSL Wednesday Recap: Giants Get WSL Win Over Sheboygan

Alex Koch had two extra base hits as the Oshkosh Giants took home a 9-4 victory over the Sheboygan A's at E.J. Schneider Field, Oshkosh, WI on Wednesday.

Alex Koch had two extra base hits as the Oshkosh Giants took home a 9-4 victory over the Sheboygan A’s at E.J. Schneider Field, Oshkosh, WI on Wednesday.

Matt Sabel got the win for the Giants thanks to nine strikeouts. Sabel allowed two earned runs on eight hits and two walks over nine innings.

The Giants were sparked by Koch and Craig Thompson, who teamed up for five hits and six RBIs.

Mike Ruzek was charged with the loss. He allowed nine runs in six innings, walked one and struck out six.

The Giants didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring three runs in the third inning when they scored on an RBI double by Koch and a two-run single by Thompson.

Oshkosh built upon their lead with four runs in the fourth. The inning got off to a hot start when Alex Koch doubled, scoring Josh Bartelt and Trevor Hogenson.

Oshkosh scored one more in the fifth inning, and then followed it up with another in the sixth. In the fifth, the Oshkosh Giants scored on an RBI single by Adam Cibulka, plating Jordan Mueller.

Four Sheboygan A’s runs crossed the plate in the top half of the seventh, making the score 9-4. An RBI single by Mitch Sutton, an RBI single by Detert, and two passed balls fueled Sheboygan A’s’ comeback. Finally, Sabel got Wyatt Olson to fly out to end the threat.
