The Wisconsin State Baseball League welcomed the De Pere Dodgers into
its fold for the 2016 season, marking the first time a Green Bay area team will
compete in the league since 1999, the final year of the Green Bay Billys.

The addition of
the Dodgers also marks the return of one of the league’s charter members.

Dennis Ruh will be
heading the Dodger operation. He headed
up the Green Bay Blue Ribbons in both the club’s and the league’s first year,
1970. Ruh’s Ribbons had remarkable
success in the highly competitive league, winning 13 titles in their 26 years.

The Dodgers will
play at the West De Pere High School field.

“We wanted to provide a place where Northeast
Wisconsin college age and older players have a team to play for in what I think
is the most competitive league in the Midwest,” Ruh said.

The Dodgers will
play a 30-game schedule in the league. It will be confirmed at the Jan. 30
league meeting. Other clubs in the
league are the Addison (IL), Braves, Kenosha Kings, Lombard (IL) Orioles, Oshkosh Giants, Sheboygan A’s and West Allis Nationals.

West Allis is also
playing its first full season in the league. The Nationals were part of the
league during last year’s experimental scheduling season which called for fewer
games for teams that played in multiple leagues. The Nationals organization is run by Steve
Elliott.

The Dodgers logo and website information will be released later in the offseason.
