Kenosha Kings And Addison Braves Split Sunday DH

The Kenosha Kings split a pair of extra-inning games in a Wisconsin State League doubleheader against the Addison Braves on Sunday at Simmons Field.

The Kings (23-17, 12-10 WSL) won the first game 3-2 in eight innings and dropped the second game 6-4 in nine innings.

In the opener, Addison (9-17 WSL) tied it up with a run in the seventh. After Kenosha reliever Chris Wolcott set down the side in the eighth, the Kings pushed across the winning run in the bottom half of the inning.

Jason Dennis led off with a single, stole second base and moved to third on a single by Brad Medina. Andrew Highland then provided the heroics with a one-game game-winning single.

The Kings grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fifth on a two-out, two-run single by Mark Cibrario (2-for-3, double).

Kenosha starter Andrew Paulauskas received a no-decision after giving up one run on six hits in six innings. He walked two and struck out seven. Wolcott (1-2) pitched the final two innings.

In the second game, Kings manager Tim Pulizzano went with little-used pitchers Ross Conwell, Jason Acevedo and Highland.

Making his first appearance on the mound, Highland took the loss after giving up two runs in the ninth.

“We’re saving some arms,” Pulizzano said. “We have a big playoff push in the Langsdorf League coming up this week.”

Conwell, who had pitched only two innings this season, made his first start and allowed three runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings. He walked four and struck out one. Acevedo then took the mound for the first time and gave up one run on two hits in 2 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out two.

Acevedo (3-for-4, two RBI), Kyle Frye (3-for-4, two doubles, two RBI) and Rob Novotny (2-for-3) led the Kenosha offense.

The Kings host the Racine Kiwanis in a Langsdorf League doubleheader today at Simmons Field. The first game gets under way at 6 p.m. Eric Schumacher and Randy Johnson are slated to start for the Kings.
