The West Allis Nationals claimed the Wisconsin Class A State Championship Sunday in Sheboygan.

Slated to be a double-elimination format between the Appleton Legends and Menasha Macs of the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League, along with the Sheboygan A’s and Nationals ended up becoming a three-team round-robin Sunday as rains postponed the final game of the day Saturday, with Appelton already having been eliminated.

The A’s won the Sunday opener over the Nationals 2-1 in an 11-inning affair.

The Nationals then routed the Macs 13-1 to finish 1-1. They would need the A’s to lose their final game against Menasha, and have the A’s allow two or more runs as the first tie-breaker was runs allowed Sunday. The A’s lost 4-3 in extra innings to Mensha, giving the championship to West Allis.

The Nationals collected 21 hits Sunday to go with seven walks. The Nationals finished the season second in the Wisconsin State League’s regular season with a 20-9 record.
